Today we welcome the newest contributor to the ranks of Shadow Government, Jean Geran.
Jean currently works in London as a senior fellow at the Legatum Institute (alongside yours truly). She previously served at the State Department on the policy planning staff, where she covered issues including democracy, human rights, trafficking in persons, children, and refugees. She has also worked at the National Security Council as a director for democracy and human rights, in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor on East Asian issues, and as an abuse prevention officer on a U.S. Disaster Assistance Response Team in southern Iraq in 2003. Jean brings a singular combination of issue expertise and field experience, and we are thrilled to add her voice to Shadow Government.
Created in 1947 by George Kennan at the request of Secretary of State George C. Marshall, the Policy Planning Staff (S/P) serves as a source of independent policy analysis and advice for the Secretary of State. The Policy Planning Staff's mission is to take a longer term, strategic view of global trends and frame recommendations for the Secretary of State to advance U.S. interests and American values. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced that Anne-Marie Slaughter is the director of the policy planning staff at the U.S. State Department. Slaughter has resigned as dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Times are tough right now. It can be difficult and stressful to cope with today's environment. That’s why it is important to consider the Employee Assistance Program to help deal with these and other issues. State employees and family members covered in the Commonwealth’s health plans can get up to four free counseling visits per incident. This is why people are looking for financial aid and they end up with loan till payday.
Shadow Government is a blog about U.S. foreign policy under the Obama administration, written by experienced policy makers from the loyal opposition and curated by Peter D. Feaver and William Inboden.
